Are you in implementation and need buy-in from employees?
Have you relaunched and want to build some buzz?
I have found that the best way to generate excitement and participation from all areas of our organizations is to ask employees from ALL levels a simple question - "What's your problem?" You can follow that with questions about their biggest daily headache, the piece of paper that gets lost the most or what mistakes they see frequently. Brainstorm a bit for a portal-based solution (there are SO MANY!) and see what you have. Maybe an eForm that takes 10 minutes to build fixes the "Vanishing Document" that plagues a department. It might be that a Help Desk causes a group to respond more efficiently to requests. A simple set of instructions placed in Products and Services or Knowledge Management could lessen confusion for your customer service representatives and reduce frustration for your back-room employees all at once. If you are able to address someone's concerns, make their day easier and leave them with a warm and fuzzy feeling, that employee will talk. Word will spread, and you will almost see the buzz move through your organization. Great buy-in, user satisfaction and the knowledge that your portal administrators have solutions leads to a better, more productive portal.
