Question : We use portal docs (aka database documents) throughout our portal, and I'm seeing some odd behavior, specifically with .PDF files. I'm hoping you can help.
Normally, for say, a Word Document, I check the document out, open it, make my edits, and check it back in. That works fine. My concern is around .PDF documents. When I try to edit a .PDF by checking it out and opening it, it doesn't open in a way that I can edit (so that I can save it back and check it back in). .PDFs seem to open in the internet browser instead of as an "editable document."
When we open .PDF from a link we placed in our portal, they open in the .PDF program. Seems weird to me. I I didn’t know if this was normal or if I should reach out to tech support?
Let me know when you have a chance?
Answer : We have to admit - this one gave us an opportunity to learn as well! There was a LOT of chatter down CSM Row as we were adding documents, opening, closing, editing and trying to figure out why some did (or didn't) behave the same way! It was crazy!
One of the great things about our team is the depth of experience. Karissa (our manager of customer success) and Courtney (our implementation manager) both immediately identified that it's "not-a-portal-thing." It's actually a browser thing!
Brian then got us a good article to reference for you. It's actually from Adobe itself. If for some reason, you cannot access this article, let your CSM know and we can get it screen capped for you to use.
