Q: Dear CSM: How Can I Add Comments to a Document in a List Island?
A: We can add comments to a Portal Document, then link to them in the Portal on a List Island
Step One: Add a Comment to a Document (or Folder) in Portal Documents
1. Click on Portal Documents
2. Click on the folder where your document lives
3. Click the dropdown to the right of the document
4.Click on Comments
5. Click on Add Comment
6. Type in your comments…
7. Click Post Comment
8. Add additional comments, delete, or click OK to finish
Step Two: Add link to Comments on the List Island
1. Click the Actions Icon on the Title bar for your List Island
2. Click Manage Content
3. Choose a Document in your List Island
4.Click Choose Fields
5.Choose Document
6. Find Comments on the left
7. Click Add
8. Click OK
9. Users can now easily access all Comments via the View Link hyperlink that automatically appears
**Note: at this time comments do not display here, as that could make the List Island change drastically in size and potentially may cause viewing issues on the page. It also ensures that all Comments may be viewed by the users at once in a clean format for each document specifically, which should help minimize confusion of which Comment belongs to which Document.
An alternative would be to use the Text Field on a List Island between each document if there was a particular instance where you needed to display a note in the List Island. This would just be a more manual process and would require separate maintenance as it wouldn't be linked to the document itself. :)
