Question : I am planning to make a few "alternate" versions of our normal banner for the credit union to use for the upcoming holidays. Should I be assigning them to all? Should I make them "Public"? I'm not sure what some of the settings are.
Answer: Excellent question! It has more moving parts than you'd think, so let's go one piece at a time.
- If you want ALL staff to have the same layout (example of a layout would be a Banner) then just set everyone to that banner. Rachelle has a great article for this.
- If you want to ensure no one can "change" their layout to something else (in their Preferences) then you need to ensure that NO other layouts are "Public." Check out the Image below.
- Similarly, if you want people to be ABLE to choose their own layouts, then they do that in their Preferences and can only choose layout that the Admin has made Public.
- If you want to make a button or link for people to easily get to their Preferences, the URL for that is https://YOURPORTALNAMEHERE/UserTools/Customize_Portal.aspx
Here's a best practice example I'd like to share. A group wants to have a "special" version of their banner. It really is the same links and etc - it just has a different look. (See below)
If the Admin wants EVERYONE to have the snow banner, then assign to all and make sure NO other banners are made public.
If the Admin wants to allow staff to CHOOSE which banner they want, then BOTH banners need to be made Public and staff needs to be trained/directed how to swap them. Want help or more ideas? Ask your CSM!!
