OS EDU - Page Building Percentages (with Math!) Follow
As many of you know, we have been strongly encouraging our groups who are on v6 or higher to set up their Island Properties and Page Layout using percentages, as this helps to keep a clean and consistent look on your pages, despite having different screen resolutions and ratios being used across your organization. This means that no matter what resolution your end users have, they should still see a pretty page, with few, if any "scroll bars.”
So – we spent some time building a page that shows you what some of those percentages could look like. This might help you as you lay out information on your pages. Even better – you can upload this page directly to your portal (provided you are on version 6.1 or higher) using the Page Templates feature! (Download the Page Template XML file directly from this article!)
Once you upload the page template, it should look like this: Let’s explore those first six boxes. The first two pink and light yellow boxes are both 47% wide. I set the first box up at the 0% left setting, so it is right at the edge of the screen. 47 + 47 = 94. If I think of my screen as being 100%, that means have 6% space “leftover” and decided to use that between them. 47 + 6 = 53, so that tell me the second column should be set 53% in from the left side.
The light orange and light green boxes below that are also 47%, but now, I’m taking that 6% spacing and using it to separate the islands from the edge of the page. (2% space on the left, in the middle and on the right)
