OnSemble Search Result Behavior
Understanding how OnSemble pulls results for searches can be a huge benefit when building out your content. For example, adding unique tags to commonly accessed documents (such as "The Blue Form") will drastically narrow down the number of results to comb through. Below, you'll find a list of locations that are searched when a specific search is ran.
- When I search Pages, results are pulled from:
- Page Names.
- Page Tags.
- Portal Text Editor content on the page.
- Tabbed island Tabs.
- (Island Titles are NOT searched)
- When I search Users, results are pulled from:
- ANY User Profile field (first name, last name, email, position, etc.)
- This includes custom profile fields.
- When I search Conversations, results are pulled from:
- Conversation Names.
- Content of Conversations.
- Forum Names.
- Created By Field
- When I search Announcements, results are pulled from:
- Announcement Titles
- Announcement Contents
- Posted By Field
- Workgroup Name
- When I search Documents, results are pulled from:
- Document Names
- Document Contents
- Document Folder Locations
- Document Tags
Narrowing your Search Results with Quotations
When searching Documents, OnSemble allows the use of quotation marks (") in the search panel to assist with multi-word phrases. Here's an example. Searching for the phrase BRANDING GUIDE CLASSES (without quotation marks) will search each word separately. This can produce a large number of results, of which none could be relevant. However, searching for "BRANDING GUIDE CLASSES" (with quotation marks around the entire phrase) will search for these words appearing together, narrowing your search to a much smaller list of results.
