If images are showing a placeholder image when added to the Carousel or Image islands, but images work correctly from somewhere else such as the PTE, a quick change can be made to get them working correctly everywhere.
What needs to be done?
As a portal administrator, go to Portal Tools > Manage Portal Framework > Portal Framework Settings > System Configuration Section > Application Root field.
If the Application Root field has something other than the URL used to access the portal, update the field to reflect the URL (ex. http://portal) and select OK at the bottom of the page.
Go back to the islands and add the images again with the new URL. This should resolve the issue of the placeholders showing instead of the image.
