Sometimes when editing pages, it is easier to get the islands spaced appropriately with a smaller grid size. This article will walk you through how to change the grid size.
Here's an example of the default grid size as well as a portal that has been altered to display a smaller grid.
Default Grid Size:
Decreased Grid Size:
Please note that this change requires server access and should be applied carefully since we are making changes to the webconfig file. This file, if edited incorrectly, can bring down the portal.
1. Open the web.config which is generally located here: Drive:\inetpub\wwwroot\Production Portal\web.config
2. Search for 'applicationroot' within the web.config file by selecting ctrl+F.
3. Place the following tags in same location: islandGridSize="60" islandGridTolerance="15"
The tag will look like this-
<settings administratorEmail="email@example.com" applicationRoot="http://copykat/" islandGridSize="60" islandGridTolerance="15" organizationName="Portal Name" fileCabinetContentPath="C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\Portal Name\FileCabinetContent">
The above values are default, if you change from default you also have to change the GridPanel.png image as well.
This image is located in the Theme skin folder (ex: Inetpub\wwwroot\production portal\app_themes\customtheme\skin), so if you change islandgridsize to 36 then you need to change image size to 36 also.
