When do we plan to release?
Our formal launch date is August 19th. However, the product may be available on Expressway as early as August 14th. Product development is complete and we are working on post development tasks.
Will my consulting applications work with the update?
Our consulting team has tested Featured Applications in preparation for this release. They are currently working some fixes on the following:
- Management Blogs
- Knowledge Management
- Test Taker
How do I know if I have a consulting application?
All Featured Applications and Consulting projects are listed on the Portal Framework Summary Report. If you are not sure if you have a consulting application, you can email this report to firstname.lastname@example.org for assistance.
Is there a cost for this update?
No, there is no cost to you. Both the update and migration are included in your Support and Maintenance.
How do I get the update?
This update will be available in Expressway.
How long with the update take?
The update itself will only take an hour or two. The data will be migrated using a SQL Script as normal. There may be some additional manual adjustments for themes and branding but all should be fairly straight forward.
Since there is no possible way we can duplicate your creativity in our QA environment, we do strongly recommend that you install the update on your Sandbox portal first!
Is it possible to have a demo copy for a select number of users before implementing company-wide?
We recommend getting a Sandbox environment so you can test and run through this update but no existing content should be affected.
We can also provide access to Voyager One which is shared by several customer so there would be some limitations on changing the User Interface settings. However, the new islands and features would be available.
Can you explain sandbox?
It is a duplicate installation of your employee solution that groups use for testing updates before applying to their production portal. Each Sandbox installation includes a complete copy of your production portal and data. Additional data migrations can be requested as needed.
How much does a data migration to Sandbox?
$500 one time fee. One initial data migration is included with a Sandbox purchase.
Will there be any downtime associated with the update?
As with any Portal Framework update there is some downtime while Expressway is running but it is minimal. If your portal is updated to the current version, your users should be able to access the portal within 15 minutes or less. With the additional changes to themes and island layouts in this update you may want to allow extra time for post-update testing.
Can I schedule the update after hours?
After hours updates are available upon request. Our technical support hours are 8:00AM – 8:00PM EST so accommodations can be made during those hours. We will consider updates outside of these hours, but there may be an additional charge. All Sandbox updates and data migrations should be scheduled during our regular support hours.
Do I have to update immediately? How long is the current version supported?
No, your organization does not have to update immediately. However, it is best practice to keep as update date as possible. We certainly understand that these updates are critical to your organization and it takes time to schedule and get prepared. For those of you with Consulting Applications, we recommend that you contact us prior to your update to make sure your apps are ready for this update.
We will continue to support your portal until you have updated to the latest version. However, we will no longer be providing product updates to older versions.
Will my current page layouts change? Will I have to rebuild any pages?
One of our primary goals of this update is to include a migration that will leave your portal looking the same once the update is complete. We have been able to successfully do this on several internal and customer portals in our QA environments already. After the update your portal will have a different look and feel, but your page content and layouts should remain the same.
You should not have to rebuild any pages, but we would recommend that you take advantage of the new features and rebuild them anyway! The ability to resize and move your islands around will undoubtedly improve your pages.
