The portal features social networking tools, allowing users to post status updates to their profiles and follow other users. While some embrace this type of collaboration within their organizations, others are opposed to it.
The social networking functionality is very simple to control by the Portal Administrator and can be hidden completely or granted to specific roles.
On the Navigation Tree, click on Portal Tools
> Manage Portal Framework
> Layouts Manager
Public Layouts Tab click:
> Toolbar Layouts
- Deselect Default Toolbar
> Start Page Layouts
-Deselect Activity Feed Start Page
> User Profile Layouts
-Deselect Default User Profile
To assign specific layouts, Click on the Assign Layouts Tab and click the dropdown menu selecting the Toolbar Layout, Start Page Layout, and/or User Profile Layout options and then click on the appropriate individual user or role in the right-hand column. Click ADD to assign the layouts (name/role will move to the right-hand column) then OK.
To Disable the 'Follow' Feature under User Profiles:
1. Create a new user profile layout by copying the Default. Located here: Drive:\Inetpub\wwwroot\Passageways\Layouts\User Profile Layouts\Default
2. Rename this new folder to something like 'FollowFeatureDisabled'.
3. Comment out the 2 lines in the UserProfile.ascx file for the follow and divider pieces. Should look like below code:
4. Assign this layout to users from within the portal.
Portal Tools > Manage Portal Framework > Layouts Manager > Select the new User Profile Layout that you just created and assign to the appropriate users
